Folk-Ethnological Museum of Macedonia-Thrace
The Folk-Ethnological Museum of Macedonia-Thrace is a real gem for Thessaloniki and all Macedonia regions, highlighting the local culture. More specifically, it presents and familiarizes the visitors with the traditional culture, raises awareness on the traditions and customs and the overall cultural heritage of the region. The museum was founded in 1957 and since then the administration and housing have been changed several times. Nowadays the main building of the museum is located in the eastern Thessaloniki in Vasilisis Olgas avenue at number 68. It is a villa of the early 20 century, known as Villa Modiano, and built to house the family of the banker Giako Modiano, also known as the “Old Governor” because it was the residence of the Governor of Macedonia and later Minister of Northern Greece. The museum is a very educational destination for any visitor who is interested in history, tradition, manners and customs of Thessaloniki and Macedonia in general.
