The Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the three museums of modern art found in Thessaloniki. The Macedonian Center for Contemporary Art and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art are a special sample of citizens’ initiative, unique in the history of the domain of Greek art.
The idea of the museum began in 1978, inspiring a group of people who worked hard to implement this idea. Founded in 1979 after a donation of 47 valuable works of art by the collector Alexander Iolas. After several other donations the museum now houses 2000 works of art covering all areas of contemporary art. The Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the building facilities of the Thessaloniki International Fair, in the commercial heart of Thessaloniki.The museum is fully renovated and adapted to the quality levels set by all the respectable museums in Europe, providing accessible spaces for persons with disabilities. After receiving our company’s rental car from the Macedonia airport of Thessaloniki, you can easily visit this remarkable museum. The museum’s working hours are Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday 10:00 to 18:00, Wednesdays 10:00 to 22:00, Fridays 10:00 to 19:00 and Sundays 11:00 to 15:00.
