Rail transport
The new railway station of Thessaloniki is the most important railway hub in the country in the axis line PATHEP (Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki-Eidomeni/Promaxonas) and connects Greece with the rest of Europe and Turkey. All passengers board from the central railway station in Thessaloniki (New Train Station). The state rail company providing services is TRAINOSE and operates daily direct services to Athens, Kalambaka, Florina, Alexandroupolis, Evros within Greece • Skopje, Belgrade, Sofia, Bucharest and Istanbul abroad. The Old Railway Station is located in the port and is now used only for freight.
