The distance to Sarti in Halkidiki is 140 km from Thessaloniki. Sarti is a large village with 1157 inhabitants according to the 2001 census. The inhabitants are mainly occupied with tourism, fisheries and agriculture. According to Herodotus, on its current position was the namesake city that Xerxes destroyed in his path. In 1922, old residents of the homonymous island in Marmara, settled there after the Asia Minor Catastrophe. Its original name was Neophytou Afisia. Sarti’s sandy beach was granted an award in 2004-2005 on the website thalassa.gr as one of the 10 best beaches in Greece. Many tourists take tours to the nearby beach Kavourotripes which is famous for its turquoise sea and white cliffs and which you can visit with your rental car picked up from the airport in Thessaloniki.
